PENSÃO AGRÍCOLA, ALGARVE, PORTUGAL

I have to admit that I have completely fallen in love with this whitewashed, former farmhouse in southern Portugal. Originally built in 1920, it was a working farm until 1970. The new owners have lovingly restored this property after 40 years of neglect, and the results are stunning, simple and stylish.

Set in the Algarve countryside and surrounded by meadows of olive, almond, fig and orange trees - it’s a picture perfect location and makes for a relaxing and peaceful stay. Faro airport is approximately 35km away, Seville, Spain is a 1.5 hour drive away and it’s in easy reach of beautiful beaches (5km away) and the lovely historic town of Tavira (a 10 minute drive away).

The traditional Portuguese architecture and style of the structure of the farmhouse has been preserved with the restoration. They offer 6 bedrooms for guests with private patios, as well as common areas for everyone to enjoy. The stunning interiors are white, minimalistic, and furnished with rustic, vintage pieces, lots of wood and soft, neutral tones - my favourite style!

For me, it’s really important to start the day with a delicious breakfast, and all of the reviews talk about how amazing the food is here! Not only the breakfasts served on the outdoor terrace each morning, but also on request, the 5 course dinners based on family recipes and made using high quality, local produce.

There is a plunge pool for guests to use, and bicycles for exploring the countryside. They can also arrange a picnic basket and sunshades for a day at the beach.

People say the staff here are all kind, thoughtful and welcoming. I also read that the owners say Pensão Agrícola is a place where “they want people to feel happy”. I think I could be very happy here - very happy indeed!
