THE BAROQUE TOWNS OF SOUTH EASTERN SICILY
If you’re in South Eastern Sicily you absolutely must visit the beautiful Baroque towns (rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1693) such as Noto, Modica and Ragusa Ibla. We also loved our visit to the small fishing village of Marzamemi for dinner, and the island of Ortigia (part of Siracusa) with its ancient ruins. Make sure you hire a rental car so you can do plenty of exploring – it’s definitely the easiest way to get around!
There is so much to see by simply wandering the streets of these magical towns. The late afternoon/evening light is incredible in the summer months and seems to add to the phenomenal beauty of these towns. We loved visiting a different place each day, arriving late afternoon for a gelato and a walk, then enjoying aperitivo and dinner before heading back to our Masseria for the night. I can’t wait to go back to this incredible part of Sicily to explore some more!
