PARAMOUNT HOUSE, SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
STAY
Paramount House, Sydney
Sydney has many hotels to choose from, however I’ve been waiting for a while now for a new boutique hotel to arrive on the scene. I’m pleased to report that it’s now materialised in the form of Paramount House Hotel in inner-city Surrey Hills. I love this area for its fantastic cafes and restaurants - many of the best are in close walking distance of the hotel.
The building itself was the former headquarters of Paramount Picture studios, and has been expertly re-designed by Melbourne based ‘Breathe Architecture’. The brick exterior contrasts with a striking copper zig-zag design roof - a clever juxtaposition of the old and new.
The high ceilings and old brickwork have been retained, and new additions such as concrete and terrazzo tiles added to the mix. The rooms are beautifully and simply decorated with Jardan furniture, Cultiver linen bedlinen, vintage pieces, Loom rugs, quirky artwork and Aesop toiletries.
There are 29 rooms and 5 different styles of accommodation - choose from the ‘Nook’, ‘Everyday’, ‘Sunny’, ‘Loft’ and the largest which is appropriately named ‘Mack Daddy’. We stayed in the ‘Everyday’ which we were very happy with, however I would book the ‘Sunny’ next time I stay as it has an enclosed balcony, which would be a quieter option.
The hotel facilities include a rooftop health club, the Golden Age cinema and bar, Paramount coffee project cafe for a fantastic breakfast or lunch, a co-working office space and Poly wine bar with an incredibly extensive wine list - what more does a traveller need under one roof? Make sure you try it for yourself next time you visit Sydney.
