PROVENCE, FRANCE

A stay in Provence is incomplete without spending some time exploring several of the beautiful, small, villages of Provence.

Firstly, think about which villages you’d most like to visit and then plan your visit to coincide with their Market day. In the Luberon area you will find that there is a Market on in a different village nearly every day of the week! Market days can be busy, but I love it as it’s when the village really comes alive! Wander the cobblestone streets, listen to local musicians, stop for a glass of rosé at a local café, check out the market stalls and purchase a selection of delicious breads, cheeses, meats and fruit to feast on.

If you’re staying at Domaine de Fontenille near Lauris, it’s only a short drive to many of these lovely villages. Lourmarin (7 kms), Roussillon (34 kms), Bonnieux (20 kms), L’Isle-sur-la-sorgue (38 kms), Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (41 kms) and Gordes (45 kms).

The larger city of Aix-en-Provence (40 kms) is one of my favourite places and perfect for a spot of shopping and a delicious lunch.  Stroll along Rue Marius Reynaud in the old centre for high-end boutiques and try one of the many cafes on Place Forum des Carders for lunch.
