Istoria Hotel, Santorini

The recently opened Istoria Hotel is a wonderful alternative to the hustle and bustle of the island of Santorini. Located on the south eastern coast of the island in a quieter location, it’s set metres from the black sand of Perivolos beach.

The Athens based ‘Interior Design Laboratorium’ have created a stunning resort with a wonderful combination of traditional and contemporary features - a mix that I particularly love. Following the architecture of the Cyclades Islands, the design is simple and uncluttered, with thick walls, raw stone, concrete and vaulted ceilings. The wooden furniture and handcrafted textiles work beautifully with the neutral interiors, creating a sense of understated calm and a relaxed ambience.

Their restaurant offers modern Greek and Mediterranean dishes with a focus on fresh seafood which is of course in abundance. Called ‘Mr E’ the chef is Alexandros Tsiotinis, formerly of Noma in Copenhagen and Le Bristol in Paris. They are lucky enough to have their own organic garden at the hotel, so you know the herbs and vegetables are super fresh! I love that the chairs and tables are set literally on the sand which creates a relaxed “I’m on holidays by the beach” feel. The Spa here has an Asian influence and is well worth a visit for some pampering and relaxation. The reviews I’ve read about this hotel talk about how lovely and hospitable the staff were - what more could you ask for on this island paradise?
